Introduction to Magic – Story of Harut & Marut

This story must be started with the following Ayats:

And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, “We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic].” And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah . And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.

And if they had believed and feared Allah, then the reward from Allah would have been [far] better, if they only knew.

{Surah Baqarah; Ayat: 102-3}

These two verses clearly explain the concept of Magic and the fact that, practicing it amounts to Disbelief – the people who perform real Magic are disbelievers and have no share in the hereafter. Actually there are two form of magic:

  1. Fake Magic / Trick of Eye
  2. Real / Black Magic

Now, let’s discuss the fact in detail stages…

Harut and Marut Came to Babylon and taught Magic to Humanity

There are many versions of stories regarding these two angels of Allah(swt) named Harut and Marut, who came to humankind and taught magic in the city of Babylon. Please note that Angels can not disobey Allah(swt):

…Angels … do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded. {Surah At-Tahrim; Ayat: 6}

…and the Angels [as well], and they are not arrogant. They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded. {Surah An-Nahl; Ayat: 49-50}

They came and taught human magic with the permission of Allah(swt). In additional to that, they used to warn everyone before teaching them magic by saying that, we are sent as a test from Allah(swt) and practicing magic results to disbelieve.

Examples of Magic in the Quran

Few examples of real magic is mentioned in the Quran directly:

The above Ayat mentions one kind of magic by which separation between husband and wife is possible.

Another kind of Magic is mentioned in the story of Musa AS, where Phiraon called up the best magicians of that time and they used magic to cause deception to the eyes of the people. The magicians threw many ropes and caused such an illusion that those ropes appeared to be moving as snakes. But later on Musa AS with the help of Allah(swt) defeated those magicians:

He said, “Throw,” and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. And We inspired to Moses, “Throw your staff,” and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. {Surah Al-A`raf; Ayat: 116-8}.

He said, “Rather, you throw.” And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes]. {Surah Taha; Ayat: 66}

So what is Real-Magic?

There is no doubt that we being Muslims believe that, real magic (apart from the trick-of-the-eye) exists. Even our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was once made a victim of real magic before the revelation of Surah Falaq and Nas. You can read the story by clicking here.

So, magic actually originated from the teachings of Harut and Marut. This is the procedure by which human being can utilize Jinnkind to harm or achieve worldly benefits. However this is strictly prohibited and the person does it should commit the highest forms of disbeliefs to Allah(swt) and has no share in the hereafter. Actually the Ayat in Surah Baqarah mentions that, in fact Magic does not benefit the magicians; rather, they sell their entire deen/hereafter in exchange of the magic. You can see some examples of the activities of the black magicians in this video.

The effect of Magic happens with the permission of Allah(swt)

Another important fact to mention is that, whatever happens with the effect of magic, happens with the permission and under the complete control of our Lord Allah(swt). So this is a form of test in both ways:-

For the magicians – the test is that if they commit the crime they are benefited inside the world fulfilling their desires but as a result spoil their hereafter completely;

For the victims – the test is whether they stick to the way of Allah(swt) asking help from Him alone or divert from the path to ask help from the others. Sometimes they even reach out to the magicians for help and get entrapped.

We should not get to the Magicians for Help/Cure

In Islam we are not even allowed to go and seek help from a magician/fortune teller/anyone who claim to use jinns for any cure. In an authentic Hadith our Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) mentioned that, “Whoever … consults a soothsayer, then he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.” {Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Hadith No: 135}.

Summary of the Ayat concerning Magic and Sulaiman AS:

  • Sulaiman AS didn’t disbelieved by practicing Magic.
  • Practicing magic amounts to disbelief — from the above ayat we saw Harut & Marut used to warn by saying “do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]…”.
  • The same Ayat also mentions that, whoever purchased the magic would not have any share in the Hereafter [and wretched is that for which they sold themselves.]
  • The effect of Magic happens with the permission of Allah(swt), however it is a form of test for both the magician and the victim.

Everything about Jinns

Being Muslims, we must believe and know regarding Jinns. The first reason for this is, Iblees is a Jinn who became the enemy of the entire humankind and promised Allah(swt) to mislead us and take us with him to the hellfire.

  • However, these creatures are nothing but a creation of Allah(swt).
  • They are intelligent creatures like human being and angels (unlike animals and insects).
  • Like us, they also have the freedom of decision whether or not to believe in and worship Allah(swt) and do evil or righteous deeds (unlike angels – angels do not disobey).

We must also know regarding their characteristics and limitations so that they can not scare us or entrap us to commit crime against our maker – Allah(swt).

Characteristics of Jinnkind

For better understanding of the Jinnkind, their characteristics, as mentioned in the authentic sources, are summarized below:

Jinns were Created before mankind:

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. {Surah Al-Hijr; Ayat: 26-27}

Jinnkind is made up of smokeless fire:

And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire. {Surah: Ar-Rahman; Ayat: 15}

Jinns are Invisible in their original form:

Jinnkind in their original form are invisible to us – as they are created from smokeless fire. The arabic word Jinn originated from the root word “janna” which means to cover or conceal.

…Indeed, he{Shaitan} sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them… {Surah Al-Araf; Ayat: 27}

They can take form of Human and animals:

From several Ayat and Hadiths we know that Jinns can take form of Human and animals.

In various Hadiths, prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mentioned pure black dogs as the Shaitan:

He[Allah’s Messenger] said: ‘The black dog is a Shaitan (devil).'” {Jami` at-Tirmidhi; Hadith: 338}

Abu Dharr narrated: “I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about the all-black dog and he said: ‘(It is) a devil.’” {Sunan Ibn Majah; Hadith: 3210}

Jinns may take the form of human beings:

And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, “No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector.” But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, “Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed I fear Allah . And Allah is severe in penalty.” {Surah Al-Anfal; Ayat: 48}

A Jinn was caught by Abu Huraira in human form who taught him Ayat-ul-Kursi:

Abu Huraira narrated, Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing from the foodstuff. I caught him and said, “I will take you to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)!” Then Abu Huraira described the whole narration and said: That person said (to me), “(Please don’t take me to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you.) When you go to your bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi, (2.255) for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn.” (When the Prophet (ﷺ) heard the story) he said (to me), “He (who came to you at night) told you the truth although he is a liar; and it was Satan.” {Sahih al-Bukhari; Hadith: 5010}

They can possess human being:

From Surah An-Nas we came to know that Shaitan may be a Jinn who can whisper in our chest. Read more here.

However, we also believe that Jinns can take control over human being. The below Ayat illustrate this:

Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity… {Surah Al-Baqarah; Ayat: 275}

In many aspects, the Jinn are very similar to us:

They are intelligent creatures like us and they too marry, have children and also die. Most importantly, Quran mentions that, both Jinns and Human have the same purpose of life:

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. {Surah Adh-Dhariyat; Ayat: 56}

So, there are both Muslim and non-Muslim Jinns. They will also be subject to a Final Reckoning by Allah(swt) like us.

Allah will fill Hell with jinns and men all together:

… But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, “I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together.” {Surah Hud; Ayat: 119}

… And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless. {Surah Al-A’raf; Ayat: 179}

Every one of us has a Jinn(Shaitan) appointed for us

We must know that every one of us has one Jinn attached to us, so there is nothing to be scared of this creature. Another good news is that we may have 1 jinn appointed for us but every one of us also has at least 4 angels with us (2 [on our soulders] to record our deeds and 2 [on front and back] to protect us from evil)

There is none amongst you with whom is not an attache from amongst the jinn (devil). They (the Companions) said: Allah’s Messenger, with you too? Thereupon he said: Yes, but Allah helps me against him and so I am safe from his hand and he does not command me but for good. {Sahih Muslim; Book 52, Hadith 62}

For each one are successive [angels] before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allah . Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron. {Surah Ar-Ra’d; Ayat: 11}

And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers [2 angels on left & right]. Noble and recording. They know whatever you do. {Surah Al-Infitar; Ayat: 10-12}

Jinns can Flow through our Blood

Shaitan can flow through our blood and whisper evil thoughts in our mind:

Jabir narrated that Muhammad(pbuh) said: “Do not enter upon Al-Mughibar (the women whose husband are absent), for indeed the Shaitan flows through one of you as the blood flows… {Jami` at-Tirmidhi; Hadith: 1172}

Safiya bint Huyay narrated that once she was returning home with Muhammad(pbuh) and 2 men from the Ansar passed by them and they hastened away (started to move away swiftly), so our Prophet(pbuh) said to them: “Don’t hurry! It is Safiya, the daughter of Huyay (i.e. my wife).” They said, “Glorified be Allah! O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! (How dare we suspect you?)” He said, “Satan circulates in the human mind as blood circulates in it, and I was afraid that Satan might throw an evil thought into your hearts.” {Sahih al-Bukhari; Hadith: 3281}

Surah Nas is the perfect cure to save us from evil whispers. For more information click here to read this article

But interestingly, on the day of Judgement when we will try to blame the Shaitan regarding our misdeeds, he will say “Allah(swt) called you to the truth/guidance and I had no authority over you, I just whispered and invited you to evil and it is you who responded, so you are exclusively responsible”:

And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, “Indeed, Allah had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me [with Allah ] before. Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment.” {Surah Ibrahim; Ayat: 22}

Transport/transform materials (into energy):

From the story of Sulaiman AS we came to know of a special power, of some of the powerful Jinns who have the ability to transfer huge substances at great speed over long distance. This transfer might require the substance to be converted into energy and then carry it (probably in the speed of light) and then convert it back again to its material/physical format. The students of science may relate it to the famous E = mc2.

The below Ayat describes this power:

A powerful one from among the jinn [Ifreet] said, “I will bring it to you before you rise from your place, and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy.”

Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture, “I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you.” And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, “This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. And whoever is grateful – his gratitude is only for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever is ungrateful – then indeed, my Lord is Free of need and Generous.”

{Surah An-Naml; Ayat: 39-40}

Interesting fact from Surah Jinn:

The Quran has a particular Surah that has been named as Surah Jinn. Where an interesting fact happened. Few jinns, while passing by, listened to the Quran, amazed by it, affirmed its truthfulness and believed in it. This matter was informed to our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by our maker Allah (swt) through revelation. Previously, Jinns used to get into the sky and steal divine information but after the revelation of the Quran, special security system have been deployed to ambush the jinns if they attempt it again.

Say, [O Muhammad], “It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, ‘Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’an.

It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son

And that our foolish one has been saying about Allah an excessive transgression.

And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.

And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.

And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger].

And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.

And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.

And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.

And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah ], and among us are the unjust. {Surah Al-Jinn: Ayat 1 – 14}

People who claim to help with Jinns or Dead Souls

It must be borne in mind that, any person (who might seem extremely religious), claiming to help us with the aid of Jinns or soul of a dead person may be either:

  • Lying that he/she has control over Jinn or souls.
  • Practicing Magic to control the Jinns and we are not allowed to take help from them.

Jinns are not allowed to aid mankind

Jinns are actually not allowed to help mankind, so good Jinns should not come to help us voluntarily.

And [mention, O Muhammad], the Day when He will gather them together [and say], “O company of jinn, you have [misled] many of mankind.” And their allies among mankind will say, “Our Lord, some of us made use of others, and we have [now] reached our term, which you appointed for us.” He will say, “The Fire is your residence, wherein you will abide eternally, except for what Allah wills. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing.” {Surah Al-Anam; Ayat: 128}

In pre-islamic/quranic days people used to seek refuge and help from the jinns so that no harm could afflict them however which caused the jinns to increased them in Rahaq which means fear, terror and fright for their own benefit so that more and more people come to them for help. Allah(swt) clarified this matter.

And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden. {Surah Al-Jinn; Ayat: 6}

Ghost or Dead Souls doesn’t come back to us

We also should not believe in the ghost of dead person. Some of us believes that souls of dead persons may help or harm us or frighten us, but as Muslims we believe that, after death of a person the soul goes to Allah(swt) and stays on a completely different dimension to us known as the Barzakh. Our life has actually 3 steps:

  1. Life of this World –  being alive
  2. Life of al-barzakh – which starts after death and ends at the Judgement day
  3. The life starting from the Judgement day – after we will be resurrected.

So, there is nothing like the ghost/spirit of the dead person can come back and help or harm us in any way. The jinns can however take form and replicate dead persons in term of their looks and/or their voice and fool us or scare us. More info here.

Why scare us or harm us?

So, we must bear in our mind that, we must be scared of and seek help only from our almighty creator Allah(swt) and nobody else. We should already know that, Iblees is a Jinn who was converted to Shaitan and declared to be sent to hellfire. So, he promised Allah(swt) that he will lead astray most of the progeny of Adam AS. So, Iblees and his followers has the tendency to divert our feeling of fear, which should be solely for Allah(swt), towards them; as they (shaiteen) already know that they are going to hell, so they want to lead the most of us to the hell as well.

That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers. {Surah Ali ‘Imran; Ayat: 175}

Another dangerous reason is, to entrap more people towards disbelief. For example, a black Magician sought the help of Jinns in order to acquire something, for this he/she has already done activities those have resulted to the highest form of disbelief. So, those bad jinns have nothing to do with the same magicians any more. They can only help if those magicians can bring more people to them. Naturally the magicians starts hunting other innocent people who come to seek help from them (instead of seeking help from Allah(swt)). Consequently, they can then convince these innocent people to do whatever they desire.

Protection from Jinnkind

As we can not see Jinns whilst they can see us and some of them are evil, the Prophet (pbuh) taught us many ways to protect ourselves from their harm.

By reciting Surah Al-Falaq and An-Nas:

This is probably the best of all. We may seek refuge of Allah(swt) by reciting Surah Al-Falaq and An-Nas (jointly known as the Al-Mu’awwidhatayn) understanding their actual meaning with true belief and confidence in Allah(swt).

By reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi:

From an above mentioned hadith of this article, we came to know from a Jinn that, reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi when going to bed will help to get the protection from a guard from Allah(swt) who will protect us all night long, and Shaitan will not be able to come near us till dawn. Click here to read it.

By reciting the 97-98th Ayat of Surah Al-Mu’minun:

We may also recite the verse taught by Allah in the Qur’an:

And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me.” [Surah Al-Mu’minun; Ayat: 97-98}

Saying Bismillah Before Entering Home, Eating/Drinking, Undress & Intercourse:

Saying Bismillah (in the Name of Allah) before entering one’s home, eating or drinking, and having intercourse prevents Shaitan from affecting us.

Jabir reported, I heard Muhammad(pbuh) saying: When a person enters his house and mentions the name of Allah at the time of entering it and while eating the food, Satan says (addressing himself: You have no place to spend the night and no evening meal; but when he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, the Satan says: You have found a place to spend the night, and when he does not mention the name of Allah while eating food, he (the Satan) says: You have found a place to spend the night and evening meal. {Sahih Muslim; Book 36, Hadith 136}

Jabir reported, I heard Muhammad(pbuh) saying: The Satan is present with any one of you in everything he does; he is present even when he eats food; so if any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove away anything filthy on it and eat it and not leave for the devil; and when he finishes (food) he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of his food the blessing lies. {Sahih Muslim; Book 36, Hadith 177}

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “If anyone of you, when having sexual relation with his wife, say: ‘In the name of Allah. O Allah! Protect us from Satan and prevent Satan from approaching our offspring you are going to give us,’ and if he begets a child (as a result of that relation) Satan will not harm it.” {Sahih al-Bukhari; Hadith: 3271}

Similarly, mentioning the name of Allah (by Bismillah) before entering the toilet or taking off one’s clothes will prevent the jinn from seeing or harming us. Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) said:

“The screen between the eyes of the jinns and nakedness of the children of Adam when one of you enters the area of relieving oneself is saying: ‘Bismillah.'” {Jami` at-Tirmidhi; Hadith: 606}

Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) also taught us: we should not curse them by saying “May the devil be destroyed” – this actually makes them big like a House. Rather, we should say “Bismillah” – this actually diminish them to the size of a fly. Abu al-Malih reported:

I was riding on a mount behind the prophet (May peace be upon him). It stumbled. Thereupon I said: May the devil perish! He said: do not say; may the devil perish! For you say that, he will swell so much so that he will be like a house, and say: by my power. But say: in the name of Allah; for when you say that, he will diminish so much so that he will be like a fly. {Sunan Abi Dawud; Hadith: 4982}

By reciting Surah Al-Baqarah:

Abu Hurairah RA reported, I heard the Muhammad(pbuh) saying:

“Do not turn your houses into graves. Indeed Ash-Shaitan does not enter the house in which Surat Al-Baqarah is recited.” {Jami` at-Tirmidhi; Hadith 2877}

Abu An-Nu’man reported, I heard the Muhammad(pbuh) saying:

“Indeed Allah… sent down two Ayat from it to end Surat Al-Baqarah with. If they are recited for three nights in a home, no Shaitan shall come near it.” {Jami` at-Tirmidhi; Hadith 2882}

By gaining closeness to Allah(swt) through Piety, Dua, Reciting Quran and Zikr:

Allah(swt) mentioned in the Quran:

Indeed, over My [believing] servants there is for you[Shaitan] no authority. And sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs. {Surah Al-Isra; Ayat: 65}

Let’s try to avoid wearing Amulets/Taweez

Amulets can be of three types:

  1. Without any Quranic Verse at all – with unknown symbols, signs, tables, names and words in it.
  2. With Quranic Verses but also having some unknown things included in it.
  3. Pure Quranic Verse.

There are few hadiths against Amulets, but I couldn’t find any supporting Hadith in the favor of using amulets. Some of such hadiths are mentioned below:

“The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: ‘Whoever ties a knot and blows on it, he has practiced magic; and whoever practices magic, he has committed Shirk; and whoever hangs up something (as an amulet) will be entrusted to it.'” {Sunan an-Nasa’i; Hadith: 4079}

“The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: ‘O Ruwaifi’, you may live for a long time after me, so tell the people that whoever ties up his beard, or twists it, or hangs an amulet, or cleans himself (after relieving himself) with animal dung or bones, Muhammad has nothing to do with him.'” {Sunan an-Nasa’i; Hadith: 5067}

“I entered upon ‘Abdullah bin ‘Ukaim Abu Mabad Al-Juhani to visit him, while he had Humrah. I said:’Why don’t you hang something?’ He said: ‘Death is better than that. The Prophet (S.A.W) said: “Whoever hangs something, he is entrusted to it.” {Jami` at-Tirmidhi; Vol. 4, Book 2, Hadith 2072}

Starting from the first type of amulets, can we logically rely and feel safe with an amulet with completely unknown stuffs in it? Where we already know how black magic works.

The second type, where there is mixture of Ayats and/or Duas + unknown things in it, which are still suspicious. What if those Ayats are written just to fool us and the rest of the items in it can still harm us. What if the person who has given you the amulet are writing this without even knowing the fact that, there is something evil in those signs or words? What is the point of taking this risk? You may check out examples of Black magic beside using Quranic Verses in this video.

Now, for the third category, there are different view among the scholars as to whether or not this is still haram to use amulets or not. But, despite of trying a lot I couldn’t find any single Ayat or authentic Hadith supporting the use of amulet or taweez + most of the international scholars straightaway speaks against it. You can see this video.

Quran as the Treatment

For mental and physical diseases it is better to start with medical treatments first. Quran should obviously work to heal us spiritually, mentally or even physically:

… Say, “It [Quran] is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure.” And those who do not believe – in their ears is deafness, and it is upon them blindness. Those are being called from a distant place. {Surah Fussilat; Ayat: 44}

And We send down of the Qur’an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. {Surah Al-Isra; Ayat: 82}

The word “Ruqyah” refers to Quranic verses (and dua) that are used to treat various ailment/diseases. The greatest of Ruqyah are Surah Al-Fatihah and Al-Mu’awwidhatayn which are both discussed above.

Honey as the Treatment

The Quran and sunnah (hadiths) also mentions Honey as a healer

Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you].” There emerges from their bellies a drink[honey], varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought. {Surah An-Nahl; Ayat: 69}

Jabir Narrated: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “If there is any healing in your medicines, then it is in cupping, a gulp of honey or branding with fire (cauterization) that suits the ailment, but I don’t like to be (cauterized) branded with fire. {Sahih al-Bukhari; Hadith: 5683}

Common Logic

So, we know that honey may work as the healer so, is it logical to put honey in a small tube and hang in our neck and expect the cure? Similarly Quranic verses are definitely a cure but logically the treatment should be proper recitation of it and not hanging them over neck or alike. So it is always better to recite them with the faith over Allah(swt) – understanding the actual meaning of the ayats (if possible).

Conclusion

For the unseen matters that we should know, we can try to search these in the Quran and the Authentic Hadiths. You should be able to find out the right answers to your questions and not being misguided and get out of superstitions. Over time, the science and the scientists will keep on validating the matters already established by Islam. A small example to finish: Nowadays the so called ghostbusters and soul-catchers are using electromagnetic wave detectors and alike to find out souls and ghost whereas we Muslims know that these are actually jinns, made up of smokeless fire, and these devices should react to their presence 🙂.
